The Royal Oak country pub in Gretton has opened its doors following major refurbishment. The tasteful update has resulted in cool contemporary interiors expertly combining the traditional features of a lovely old Cotswold building. The conservatory offers beautiful views over the wonderful Cotswold landscape – by night this area is lit by candelabras and lamps that provide a wonderful, cosy atmosphere. The gardens are not to be missed, also with wonderful views over the Cotswolds, and for those who hanker for nostalgia from time to time the gentle chugging of a stream train running along the track at the bottom of the garden.

The menu of British classic dishes changes weekly. The Royal Oak, managed and run by Matthew and Wendy Brown of Wesley House fame in nearby Winchcombe, believe that food should be exciting, diverse, seasonal and British. Ingredients are sourced locally and great care is taken as to minimising food miles. The pub offers the best of seasonal British produce available.

In addition to serving great pub food Matthew, Wendy and their team offer a really warm welcome to all the family – children are able to play in the large playground situated in the garden and parents can eat and drink on the outside terrace taking in the beautiful views and relax. The pub feels passionate about their four legged friends and dogs get a very warm welcome – with special Royal Oak doggie treats at the bar available to the good (and the not so good!). Gretton is situated along the Winchcombe Way, with glorious walks on the doorstep. The tennis court located in the garden is available for customers to hire on an hourly basis. Last, but certainly not least, is the list of ales, the Wesley House team pride themselves on knowing a thing or two about the best local ales available and their selection is second to none.

Bookings or walk in
Good for :
Ale

A stone’s throw away from the market square of Stow-on-the-Wold, The Cottage at Stow is an idyllic and beautiful home-from-home in the Cotswolds.

With its open fire, luxury master bathroom complete with whirlpool bath and separate shower, well-equipped kitchen and comfortable accommodation to sleep five, this holiday cottage spread across three floors is of the highest standard. Exposed wooden beams and Cotswold stone create a cosy and traditional country cottage boasting modern luxuries including dishwasher, Freeview television and a DVD player, washer tumble drier and microwave. Accommodation is comprised of a king-size attic master bedroom plus further single, with an additional double on the first floor.

The cottage is non-smoking and for family visitors a high chair and cot can be made available on request.

The historic town of Stow-on-the-Wold lies in the heart of the Cotswolds. Boasting an array of shops, tearooms, inns and restaurants, there is something for everyone, however we would recommend Digbeth’s for a truly authentic Cotswold eating experience.

Digbeth’s has something special to suit all tastes whether it be breakfast, traditional tea and cake, delicious hearty dishes or a light snack. Using a range of fresh, locally sourced and where possible free range ingredients the menu is quintessentially Cotswold and all homemade. Located on Digbeth Street, the premises are fully licensed and are both cosy in winter, and offering a secluded walled garden for the summer months.

A short drive from the neighbouring market Cotswold towns and villages, The Cottage at Stow is the perfect destination from which to enjoy everything this beautiful part of the world has to offer.
